MockPilot

AI-Powered Form Autofill Browser Extension

MockPilot

About the Project

MockPilot is a developer-oriented browser extension that intelligently populates web forms with realistic testing data. It analyzes DOM elements to understand the context of each input field and uses AI to generate relevant mock values. Ideal for developers, testers, and UI designers, MockPilot streamlines the development process and improves testing accuracy by eliminating manual form-filling.

Key Features

  • AI-powered context-aware form autofill
  • Detects and populates multiple forms on any webpage
  • Supports all common input types: text, email, password, selects, checkboxes, radios, and textareas
  • Analyzes labels, placeholders, and DOM context to generate realistic data
  • One-click fill via floating action button or extension popup
  • Customizable with your own API key and model
  • Secure local-only API key storage

Challenges & Solutions

Understanding the semantics of form fields dynamically on various websites

Solution: Implemented DOM analysis logic using JavaScript to interpret field types and context, leveraging label and placeholder cues

Integrating AI API while maintaining user privacy and performance

Solution: Used the OpenAI API with secure, user-provided keys and performed all logic client-side to avoid data exposure

What I Learned

  • Deepened experience with Chrome Extension architecture and manifest v3
  • Gained practical understanding of integrating AI APIs into frontend tools
  • Improved proficiency in working with complex DOM structures and dynamic websites
